The ARC, which provides services to people with intellectual disabilities, is slated to finalize Oct. 15 the purchase of the vacant 51,700-square-foot, three-building campus at 6001 Crestwood Boulevard, Stewart said.
The Birmingham Salvation Army has been trying to sell the nearly 30-acre property for $1.8 million since closing the center nearly three years ago, said Salvation Army Business Manager Ed Roberson.
After renovations, including the repair of the roof, the property will become home to the 65 to 70 people in ARC’s administrative office and in its day and work program services, Stewart said.
Clearing the way for the closure of the sale, the Birmingham City Council voted Tuesday to rezone the property from R2 Single Family District to Office and Institutional District.
Ogden Deaton of Graham & Go. LLC represented Salvation Army in the sale negotiations.
