Graham & Company, LLC represented the sellers in a deal that has resulted in Publix opening a new distribution center in JeffMet Industrial Park in McCalla. The project will create 300 jobs.
A major industrial real estate project is set to go operational.
The Publix Super Markets Distribution Center will begin shipping groceries from its new McCalla facility on Feb. 22, according to information from Publix.
The new facility boasts 638,000 square feet of warehouse space and 38,000 square feet of office and cafeteria space. It will employ 300 by the end of 2017, and those associates will receive a free meal every day. Publix said the first truck will leave the property around noon on Feb. 22, and it will be the first time Publix trucks will deliver groceries to stores from an Alabama distribution center. By the end 2017, the center will be serving more than 80 stores in Alabama and Tennessee, as well as 60 stores in the Florida Panhandle and Georgia.
The company has recently opened a couple of new stores in Birmingham in high profile spots, including the 20 Midtown store in the city center and the Patchwork Farms store in Vestavia Hills.
As reported, landing a Publix distribution center in Jefferson County created hundreds of new jobs and represented a major deal only a few years removed from the county’s bankruptcy. We named the Publix Distribution Center in JeffMet Industrial Park one of our CRE Deals of the Year last year.
