Firearms manufacturer Steyr Arms Inc. is planning a $1.7 million expansion that will triple its current workforce to 21 and move its Trussville operations to Bessemer, according to a release.
Steyr Arms, a subsidiary of Austria-based Steyr Mannlicher, has a contract to buy a 33,000-square-foot facility at an undisclosed location on Morgan Road in Bessemer, the Birmingham Business Alliance today reported.
The sale is anywhere from a few days to a few weeks from closing, according to sources who asked not to be named because the deal isn’t finalized.
Steyr will wrap up its relocation from 7761 Commerce Lane in Trussville by June 2014, the release said.
The company, which currently has seven employees, will make the hires over the next three years, the BBA said.
The Bessemer City Council has approved a 10-year tax abatement for the expansion, but a BBA representative couldn’t immediately provide details. The incentive will be used for the purchase of new equipment and construction materials for the renovation of the building.
John Coleman of Graham & Co. is representing Steyr in negotiations. Jack Key of J. Key Properties LLC is representing the undisclosed seller.
